FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What should I do to prepare my chest freezer for use?
- After unpacking, remove the protection film from the freezer.
- Wash the interior of the freezer using a solution of one teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda to each pint of warm water and dry very thoroughly with a clean dry cloth.
- The freezer must be allowed to stand with the lid open for a period of at least 12 hours following delivery before it is switched on. This allows the refrigerant to settle after the disturbance of transit.
- Locate the freezer away from sources of heat such as stoves, radiators etc. Ensure that there is a minimum clearance of at least 25mm at each side.
The plastic gliders (feet) don’t fit the bottom of my freezer.
- All gliders are the same size and will fit if you turn them around by 90º and firmly push into the holes.
What temperature should I select?
- The control panel is factory set to achieve -18º. This may vary dependent on the environment.
- When the freezer is first installed, switch on the boost control (amber light) and run for at least 4 hours before placing food in it. This function will over-ride the thermostat and the compressor will operate continuously to lower the cabinet temperature further.
- When the boost control is switched off the freezer returns to the factory setting. If possible check temperature has reached -18º via a thermometer.
How do I know what temperature my freezer is running at?
- If you have a freezer thermometer you can test the temperature of the freezer by placing the thermometer between food that is already frozen. The minimum operating temperature is -18º, lower temperature can be achieved by turning the dial to a higher setting.
When should I use the boost control switch?
- As well as using the boost control when the freezer is switched on for the first time, you should switch it on for at least 8 hours before loading appreciable quantities of unfrozen food, returning it to the normal setting when the food is completely frozen.
The lid of my freezer does not appear to be sealing correctly.
- When the lid is closed you can test if it is sealing by attempting to slot a sheet of paper between the lid and the freezer.
- If the paper slides in easily, firstly check that the basket(s) are positioned correctly i.e. away from the sides of the freezer.
- BEWARE HINGES MAY SPRING BACK TO THEIR OPEN POSITION. ONLY ADJUST HINGES WITH THE LID IN THE OPEN POSITION.
Hinges can be unscrewed, adjusted and tightened.
- If these neither of these points correct the fault, please call 0870 428 4093.
I didn’t receive a basket / ice scraper / gliders with my chest freezer.
- These items are subject to the model purchased. Please check with your retailer.
- These items along with other spare parts can be purchased from www.icetechspares.com
The green light on my chest freezer is not working.
- The green light does not give any indication of the temperature inside the freezer. The light should be replaced and can be purchased from www.icetechspares.com
When should I defrost my chest freezer?
- Frost should be scraped away when it is approximately 6mm (¼”) thick, using a wooden or plastic scraper. Never use metal instruments or you will damage the finish on your freezer. Complete defrosting is required if frost cannot be scraped away easily.
How can I claim for loss of food?
- The manufacturer’s guarantee does not cover loss of food and will not accept any claim for loss. It is strongly advised that contents of your freezer be insured on installation and check freezer regularly i.e. on a day to day basis.
